A Message from the New Americans Democracy Project Fellow

Our Vote, Our Future: That is the campaign name for 2012’s New Americans Democracy Project (NADP), an effort to engage infrequent voters in the electoral process by speaking to them through the issues that are affecting immigrants in Logan Square and beyond.

The program is designed by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) and constitutes the nation’s largest non-partisan voter registration effort. With 20 NADP fellows working throughout Illinois, we care about families and will work with anyone who reaches out to us, whether Democrat or Republican.

Nationally, we seek to pressure legislators to move forward on comprehensive immigration reform. At the state level, we continue to push laws that keep our families together and promote social justice. Our next campaign will be to make our roads safer by demanding that undocumented residents get driver’s licenses and insurance. Continue reading

Parent Mentor Graduation 2012


Three hundred parents from 28 public elementary schools received diplomas today at a ceremony at Monroe Elementary School. Together they provided more than 45,000 hours of classroom support during the past academic year.

The Parent Mentor Program is a collaboration between the Logan Square Neighborhood Association and Southwest Organizing Project.
